Safety: Your safety - Our priority
Did you know that on average one worker dies and hundreds more are seriously injured every week on Australian construction sites?
If it wasn't for the role of your union to scrutinise and ensure proper onsite safety procedures it would be worse. Far worse.
It's a well known fact that union sites are safer sites, or as we like to say: 'Union Built. Safely Built.'
Members can play their part to ensure safety by reporting any dangerous safety practices and hazards to the union office or contact an organiser.
When's Daddy coming home?
In recent times the CFMEU WA launched an advertising campaign to let the public know the facts on how safety issues can severely impact the lives of workers and their families.
One of the TV ads featured the story of Andrew Jamieson, who was made a paraplegic on his first job out of school when an excavator bucket fell on him. As Andrew has told the media, to save time a pin wasn't replaced. It has now cost him his ability to walk. Another ad captures what happens when a husband and a father doesn't come home at night. Bravely told by Trish Kelsh, the widow of Des Kelsh, who died tragically when he bled to death on a building site after a tilt panel fell on him.
Watch their story now: The CFMEU WA never apologises for taking action to make sure our workers come home safely. Here's why.
