Pay & Conditions

Protecting your pay and conditions.

The Legal and Wage Claims Department of the CFMEU plays a key role in recovering unpaid wages and entitlements for financial union members.

Amongst the services that our Industrial Advocates offer to help financial members are:

  • Unlawful-unfair termination
  • Disputes over the application of Industrial Agreements
  • All workplace disputes
  • Recovery of wages and entitlements
  • Workplace harassment and bullying
  • Safety complaints

Are you being underpaid or ripped off?

We have recovered on average, $10,000 a week in unpaid wages and entitlements for our financial members.

ABN and flat rate issues have given people a false sense of security derived from being paid a higher hourly rate that may or may not compensate them for everything they are entitled to under an Award or EBA.

In the last 6 years claims have ranged from a couple of hundred dollars up to a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

Reasons for underpayment have included non- payment of wages, superannuation, redundancy, annual leave and various other Award and EBA entitlements.

Our advice is that people need to be vigilant and understand which Award or EBA covers their employment and make sure that they are being paid accordingly.

What to do if you think you’re missing out?

If you suspect that your pay isn’t correct, a good starting point to make an enquiry is with your shop steward or union organiser - call your organiser, their phone numbers are listed in the 'who's who' section of this website.

You can also contact Rod Reynolds, Wage Claims Officer, at the union office on (08) 92211055 during office hours.

IMPORTANT retrospective claims: please note

Although we can go back 6 years for wage claims, individuals making a claim have had to have been a member for the period of time they want checked.
