Redundancy

WA Construction Industry Redundancy Fund (WACIRF)

The decision to join the Fund is up to the employer. If however, they have entered into an EBA then they are obliged to contribute for their employees at the rate nominated in the EBA.

Employers are required to forward their payments once a month by the 14th of the following month.

Employees may make a claim for their entitlements provided they are unemployed and have no offer of re-employment pending in the industry. This means that if you are made redundant or terminate your employment and do not have a new job to go to in the construction industry then you may make a claim for your entitlements held by the Fund.

Every worker who is registered with the Fund is issued with a six digit membership number which is recorded on a membership card. Whenever they make contact with the Fund for whatever reason they will be asked to produce their card or quote their membership number.

When you make a claim for your entitlements you will be asked for your membership card or some other form of proof of identification. You will also be required to supply your nine (9) digit personal tax file number. If this is not provided we have no option but to deduct 48.5% from your payment as tax. If the tax file number is provided only 31.5% is deducted and all payments are treated as Eligible Termination Payments. Once a year we send you a payment Summary for inclusion in your Income Tax Return, and all workers received an annual statement showing all movements on their account. These two documents are sent out in July of each year.

Whilst making a claim you may be required to prove that you are unemployed by providing a separation certificate or completing a Statutory Declaration. When all the forms are complete we then are able to process your claim. We normally process claims twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Fund is located on the 1st floor, 44 Parliament Place, West Perth, WA, 6005. The office is open between the hours of 8.30am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday.  We may be contacted on 9481 0259 or fax 9321 1441. If you have changed your business or residential address, please advise us in writing at P.O. Box 432, West Perth, WA, 6872 or by fax, so that all relevant correspondence finds you.
