Train for your future now!
Reach new heights. Increase your skills and job opportunities.
When you go on site at the Construction Skills Training Centre (CSTC) in Welshpool, there are many things that stand out.
The facilities. Quality equipment. The 10 training classrooms. The professionalism of the trainer's. Friendly, helpful staff, not to mention the sheer size of the place. It's set out over 5 acres (10,000 meters).
But perhaps the one thing that stands out the most and symbolises why the CSTC is the best training centre of its type in Australia is the huge tower crane. The only one of its kind at any skills training centre in the entire country. People from interstate and overseas have even booked in to be trained on the CSTC tower crane.
This is not a 'pretend training centre'. When you enrol for a course you can expect to be trained using the best equipment. Equipment that is used out there on the actual job and be trained by professionals who have had real world experience. This is what sets the CSTC apart and the reason why over 5000 people per year on average have trained at the centre since it opened.
It is the preferred training centre for many of WA's top companies. As Primo Ciari from CASC Formwork says; "We have always found the CSTC to be very obliging when looking after our needs. Over the years we have put through hundreds of workers including, Doggers, Scaffy's, EWP Operators, often in groups of 8 at a time. It's been a very useful resource to help our business."
At times, the centre has also conducted fly-in fly out courses throughout the vast North-West.
It's just as well the foresight was in place to invest in a centre such as the CSTC.
Over the last decade, a lot of trade and technical college's and even pre-vocational centres in high schools have closed down, and the CSTC has proven to be an educational asset that every individual and company involved in construction can be proud of.
Apart from practical applications, the CSTC also provides theoretical as well as safety awareness and safety training related to many of its courses.
Bluecards:
The centre is also arguably the leading educator and provider of 'Bluecards' for construction industry safety awareness in WA. The CSTC has always led the way with safety related issues. In fact, it was the first training centre to design and tailor courses specifically for asbestos removal.
Company Bluecard Groups:
Enquiries from companies for group 'Blue Card inductions' are welcome.
Bluecard training free for financial CFMEU members
Remember that as a financial CFMEU member your Bluecard training is free. If want to join the union or need to pay your dues? Call the union office on 92211055. The training provides you with broad industry knowledge about construction and safety. To enrol please call the Construction Skills Training Centre on 9358 6501.
Courses and costs at the CSTC
Although the CSTC provides training for all interested parties, generous course discounts can apply to financial union members and to those who receive a BCITF subsidy. If your current employer has a registered EBA agreement with the CFMEU and is paying the training levy for you to the CSTC, all courses will be at no charge.
The CSTC offers more than 45 courses including crane operation, scaffolding, rigging, dogging, forklift operation, working in confined spaces and working at heights. For a full list of courses and costs you can contact the CSTC on (08) 9358 6501.
